The MUN (Model United Nations)
Each year the whole Sixth Form will participate in Model United Nation conferences. The Model UN engages in an authentic simulation of the United Nations system by learning about the UN system, the skills of debate, compromise, conflict resolution and negotiation. You will have fun learning about the workings of world diplomacy through the lens of current General Assembly committees.
There will be several debates held during Enrichment throughout the year. Each debate or conference will be led by the President of the MUN. The prestigious position of President will also be involved in the organisation and delivery of Enrichment throughout the year. MUN is regarded extremely highly by Oxbridge, Russell Group and American Universities.
Oxbridge and Medical Sciences
Ewell Castle Sixth Form offers a bespoke programme for students wishing to apply to Oxbridge along with those wanting to study Medicine, Veterinary Science, Dentistry and Law. Those students hoping to pursue these paths have a weekly class focusing on critical thinking. This dedicated course and support for these students will also involve bespoke interview practice involving many members of staff as well as experts brought in to prepare them. The support and preparation are an excellent opportunity for these students to learn higher level thinking skills and really hone their interview techniques. This year, we have 18 students on this course.
Extended Project Qualification (EPQ)
In the Lower Sixth we have a structured course of skills based sessions that improve study and life skills whilst also providing sufficient taught elements of the EPQ for those students who wish to or need to continue with that qualification in the Upper Sixth. There are also interesting trips and visits as well as speakers from a range of backgrounds.
In the Upper Sixth you will enjoy a varied mix of speakers and visits, which stimulate the critical and evaluative faculties, whilst also providing time for application to, and preparation for future careers and higher education. The Extended Project Qualification is an opportunity for you to learn and develop a number of personal and study skills. Students have to select a topic to study and then produce a project equivalent to 3-5,000 words having carried out research into their chosen topic. The student will then have to make a presentation detailing the outcomes of their project. This qualification is equivalent to an AS level and will allow you to develop the research and study skills vital for Higher Education.
