Guide to Sixth Form & Options - for next September 2025 entry

It is expected that all students will take three, two-year linear A-level courses over their two years of Sixth Form study, culminating in exams at the end of Year 13. Individual situations do, of course, vary greatly and the number and type of examinations taken by each student will depend upon decisions made in conjunction with tutors, parents/guardians and other appropriate members of staff.

A-levels and BTECs

Students join the Sixth Form from our Year 11 and from other schools and they embark upon a challenging and stimulating academic programme of A-level courses, whilst enjoying enhanced roles within the School. Since September 2018 we have offered a small number of BTEC courses including Business BTEC Level 3 National Extended Certificate.

Our purpose is that Sixth Formers leave Ewell Castle as well-rounded young people and experience achieving their potential - or beyond. An important aspect of life at Ewell Castle School that makes this happen, is the relationship between Sixth Form students and staff and indeed between the Sixth Form and the whole School. The quality of pupils' personal development is excellent. (ISI Report 2018).

Sixth Form facilities include; a common room and cafeteria with WiFi access, the Gadesden Library and computer suite. There are a range of opportunities for academic and personal development in our Sixth Form: from supporting school open events through to Model United Nations, or running an co-curricular activity. We welcome students and their parents to visit our Sixth Form during one of the School’s Open Events or if this is not possible, we invite you to watch our dedicated Sixth Form videos.

Uniform consists of a grey, black or navy blue suit, creating a professional and business-like atmosphere. The pupils are the oldest student body and as such, contribute to the whole School community. We are proud of their appearance and conduct which reflects the attitude and leadership that characterises expectations in the Sixth Form.

Sixth Form Entry Requirements for September 2024

To enter the Sixth Form, potential students will have an interview with the Head of Sixth Form and places offered are conditional upon GCSE (or equivalent) grades in public examinations.

Our current minimum entry requirements are five 9-5 GCSE grades or equivalent, including English and Mathematics. In addition, a minimum grade 6 GCSE is in the subject to be followed at A-level/BTEC is expected for most subjects (or a related subject if the subject undertaken has not been previously studied).  For Mathematics, the Sciences and Modern Foreign Languages, we expect a student to have achieved at least grade 7 at GCSE.

In addition, all students will pursue an enrichment programme and participate in Games lessons.  For specific subject requirements please see the above "Guide to Sixth Form & Options for September 2024" booklet.
