Another record year for A-level and BTEC examination results at Ewell Castle School
Ewell Castle is delighted to announce excellent results for our Sixth Formers, and we send our heartiest congratulations to all our students and families, as well as our wonderful staff, on these achievements.
35% of all grades were A*- A which is our highest record for A-level and BTEC public examination results. 56% of all grades were A* - B, 79% A* - C, with a 100% pass rate. BTEC results were 83% Distinction Star, all of which means that students achieved an average of 118 UCAS points each.
Notable Achievements
Nicholas Mason-Apps is our top performing A-level student this year, achieving A*A*A*A*, and will be reading Computer Science at the University of Warwick.
In addition, we are delighted to share the following exceptional results:
· Riona Syed (Head Girl) and Harry Smale both achieved A*A*A*A. Riona will be reading Economics and Management at the University of Bristol and Harry will be reading Economics with Industrial Experience at the University of Exeter.
· Alexander Cridland achieved A*A*AA and will be studying Mathematics and Physics at the University of Warwick.
· Jad Al-Shakarchy achieved A*A*A and is heading for a place at a top conservatoire to study Music.
· Alexandra McDonald (a very busy tennis scholar) achieved A*AA and will be going on to study Economics at the University of Bristol.
· Ruairi O’Rourke achieved A*AAB and will be reading Computer Science with an Industrial Year at the University of Birmingham.
We would also like to celebrate with Ben Callaghan (Head Boy) who has accepted a very prestigious Higher-Level Apprenticeship to study Engineering with British Airways and Robin McAlpine (one of our top performing tennis scholars) who has now started at Menlo College, California USA, Division 1 on a Tennis Scholarship.
Mindful that this cohort’s GCSE examinations were disrupted by COVID-19 two years ago, our Co-Heads of Sixth Form, Mr Getty and Mrs McManus are delighted: “the students and staff are thrilled with these excellent results, which reflect the high academic standards of the Sixth Form provision at Ewell Castle, and its culture of lifelong resilience. With careful and skilful guidance for each individual student, not a single one was placed in Clearing.”
Principal Silas Edmonds commented: “I am proud of our young people who have worked so diligently under the expert direction of our talented and dedicated staff. They fully deserve these wonderful A-level and BTEC results, the highest post-16 public examination results in the School’s history. In a year when the national trend for A-level grades has taken a downturn, Ewell Castle students have risen to the challenge and shown their quality. Our 2023 Ewellians all now go on confidently to prestigious universities, colleges, conservatoires and Higher Apprenticeships, fully prepared for whatever challenges they will face.”

2022 Best ever A-level and BTEC examination results at Ewell Castle School
Ewell Castle School students achieved excellent exam results this year with a 100% pass rate and the majority of students achieving their first-choice university.
- A*-A - 34%
- A*-B - 67%
- A*-C - 91%
BTEC results were 100% Distinction. Extended Project Qualifications results were 88% Grade A.
Lucy Crockford was our top performing A-level student this year, achieving A* A* A and has been offered a place at University of Exeter to study Geography.
In addition, Georgie Barker achieved A*AA and will be studying English at the University of Exeter. Alexander Blencowe achieved A*AA and will be studying dentistry at the University of Bristol.
Lily Rudd, our Head Girl, achieved A*AB and an A in her EPQ and will be going to the University of Leeds to study Geography. Samraj Mahal, our Head Boy, achieved AAB and is studying Accountancy and Business on a PWC Flying Start Programme at the University of Reading.
Patrick Hodgson and Max Dunlop both achieved four A-level grades. Patrick Hodgson achieved A*ABB and will be studying Politics at the University of Birmingham. Max Dunlop achieved A*A*AB and will be studying Maths and Statistics at the University of Warwick.
Ted Boulting Williams achieved an A* in English Literature. Edward Frost and Ashyre-Mae Harris-Manahan both got an A* in Politics. Catherine Tudor achieved an A* in Fine Art. Ethan Woolsgrove achieved ABC and will be studying a Digital Marketing Apprenticeship with Accolade Wines.
Well done also to our Year 12 students who took Maths A-level a year early achieved four A* grades and two A grades.

2021 Ewell Castle School A-level Results
Thrilled Ewell Castle School students secure record A-level and BTEC Level 3 results
Ewell Castle Sixth Form students and their families have much to celebrate this year, in a highly competitive cohort as 15% of our students have secured places to study Medicine. 45.3% of our students achieved A*-A, the School’s best-ever A-level results. 67.3% of our students achieved A*-B, 87.3% achieved A*-C and the pass rate was 100% overall.
During an academic year adversely affected by the global pandemic, lockdowns and uncertainty, our students showed great resilience, calm and focus, rising to all the challenges thrown at them. With inspiring teachers working alongside them, they have excelled to earn results of which they can be justly proud.
Taewon Kang, Orhun Isikoglu and Theo Bromley were our top performing A-level students this year, each achieving A* A* A. Two of our Level 3 BTEC Business students achieved Distinction * and one of our Level 3 BTEC Computing students achieved a Distinction. Our students have once again secured their first-choice university which include Cardiff, Loughborough, Reading, Aston, and St George’s Medical School. Ben Dunkley achieved A*AA and will study Mathematics at King’s College London; elite sportsman Theo Bromley will study at Loughborough University having achieved A*A*A and Lauren Body takes up her place at St George’s to study Medicine, having achieved A*AA.
Well done also to Emir, James and Max in Year 12 who took A-level Mathematics a year early and all achieved A*.

2020 Ewell Castle School A-level Results
Ewell Castle School students achieved a 100% pass rate at A-level with the majority of its students achieving their first choice university. 70% of all A-level grades were A*-B and 40% of grades were A*-A. BTEC results were 2 Distinction*, 1 Distinction and 1 Merit.
These have been unprecedented times and the Year 13 students at Ewell Castle have shown remarkable maturity and resilience in coping with the challenges posed this year. It is therefore truly impressive that they have done so well at A-level with these well-deserved results, which are the School’s best-ever A-level and BTECs, reflecting the commitment shown throughout the Sixth Form. Of particular note is Zakaria Dada who achieved A*A*A and will go on to read Law at UCL. Zakaria was also awarded the prestigious Jack Petchey Foundation Community Award for setting up Merton Mutual Aid during lockdown. He will be joined at UCL by Jemin Park who also achieved excellent results, achieving A*A*A, he will read Mathematics. Zachary Rapinet also did outstandingly well with A*A*A and will now go on to study Geography and Spanish at Newcastle University. We are also thrilled that Jamie Campbell achieved A* AAA and will read Physics at Southampton University.
A number of other students also achieved impressive A-level results, including Kelvin Cheung who achieved A*A*BB, Head Girl Lauren Body who achieved A*AA and Isaac Conibear who has been awarded a Scholarship at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance. Principal Silas Edmonds commented: “During what has been a time of great uncertainty and anxiety for many, I heartily congratulate our students for their dedication and fortitude. I also acknowledge the hard work and personal support that teachers and staff at the School have provided for our students, particularly during the “Lockdown” Summer Term. They have helped instil students with a sense of self-belief and confidence that has inspired many to exceed their expectations. I extend my very best wishes to all our new alumni as they commence the next phase of their studies.”
