Supporting Charities – Nepal 2017
Over the 2017 Easter holidays, a number of pupils and staff from Ewell Castle will be joining Birkdale School (Sheffield) to travel to the Kathmandu Valley region of Nepal, to visit some of the poorest, most deprived and needy children living in desperate conditions, following the 7.8 magnitude earthquake which hit Nepal in 2015 and devastated so many communities. The earthquake affected at least 8 million people and many were left homeless. Nepal’s major cities, including the capital Kathmandu were badly damaged and rural areas near the epicenter were completely cut off by avalanches. A second equally severe earthquake struck just over two weeks later.

Whilst in Nepal, pupils and staff from both schools will spend some of their time teaching English to the pupils in this school, as well as visiting a leprosy colony which is located 10 minutes from the school in a town called Kokhana. This colony houses about 500 pupils and over the years Birkdale School have built a church and a medical centre for the residents to use.
