Head of Junior School
Early Years & Key Stage 1
Ewell Castle Junior School offers simply 'Outstanding Provision' [OFSTED 2008]. The report continues:
- Highly stimulating and welcoming environment
- Organised to maximise children's achievements
- Strong focus on personal development of all children
- Specialist Early Years Staff who are 'part of a committed team who are exceptional role models'
Our landscaped gardens provide an attractive, secure and stimulating environment for our youngest pupils. The dedicated and well qualified staff provide a personalised learning environment that focuses on each child achieving their potential and which nurtures happy and confident children. Small classes enable the staff to give each child the level of attention to meet their needs in every aspect: artistic, academic and sport. Our open door policy at Ewell Castle results in a positive relationship between pupils, parents and staff.
The curriculum at the Early Years Foundation Stage consists of six areas:
- Communication
- Language & Literacy
- Problem Solving, Reasoning and Numeracy (PRSN)
- Knowledge & Understanding of the World
- Personal & Social Development
- Physical Development and Creative Development.
The transfer from Reception to Year 1 is seamless; as pupils in Reception gradually build up their activities during the school day ready for the more formal timetable in Year 1. The six areas of learning dovetail into a more subject led timetable. In Year 2, the pupils are encouraged to be more independent in their learning ready to take on the rigours of Year 3 and Key Stage 2.
Accommodation
The Early Years (Nursery and Reception: rising 3 to 5 years of age) and Key Stage 1 (KS1: 5-7 years) pupils are accommodated at Chessington Lodge: a Georgian house located in Spring Street, opposite Bourne Hall Library.
