In English, students are taught in mixed ability groups in Year 7; thereafter (Years 8-11, age 12-16 years) students are set according to ability. Special provision is made for students for whom English is not their first language.
Group sizes at KS3/4 in English are on average fourteen in number, and typically eight at AS/A level. Students are entered for OCR GCSE with the majority of students taking English Language and English Literature as separate subjects. At Advanced level the students also follow the OCR syllabus.
The department enjoy three designated English rooms. Interactive whiteboards and other technologies are available within the department.
